Kym Middleton Appointed General Manager at Women in Media


Women in Media Australia proudly announces the appointment of Kym Middleton as its inaugural General Manager, effective January 2024.


Ms Middleton, an accomplished events curator / producer and journalist will lead the national not-for-profit registered charity in its mission to foster gender equality and support women across all aspects of the media landscape.


With a career spanning editorial leadership, live programming, screen production, and digital strategy, Kym Middleton brings a wealth of experience to her new role. Her background includes notable contributions to institutions such as the Walkley Awards for Excellence in Journalism, ABC, SBS, The Ethics Centre, and Judith Neilson Institute for Journalism and Ideas.


On this exciting new role, Ms Middleton said,

I’m thrilled to join Women in Media at this important time as we move to represent more women in all facets of media, creating opportunities that empower them to network, enhance their skills, and attain career progression and well-deserved recognition.”

Reporting to co-chairs Anita Jacoby AM and Victoria Laurie, Ms Middleton will play a pivotal role in advancing Women in Media's mission to break down barriers and create a more inclusive and supportive environment for women in the industry.

The Women in Media Industry Insight Report 2023 shows barriers persist for women working in media, with the majority of women (54%) continue to be either unsure or explicitly dissatisfied with the progress of their careers. The Report informs the call for gender equality, pathways for career progress, and access to support and resources for women working in all roles and types of media.
