10 questions with Cathie Schnitzerling

What is your current role?

Executive Producer, ABC Landline.

How did you get involved in journalism?

I was offered a cadetship at Channel Nine in Brisbane in 1986 while I was in my third year of journalism studies at the University of Southern Queensland.

What professional achievement are you most proud of?

Mentoring countless journalists and being recognised for that with a Queensland Clarion Award for Contribution to Journalism in 2014.

What is one of the biggest challenges you’ve encountered?

Managing a progressing career and raising two children on my own.

Who has influenced and mentored you?

I have had very supportive managers, mostly all male, who encouraged me. I’ve had two mentors, both men.

What is something no-one knows about you?

I can sew and knit.

How do you wind down of an evening?

Cooking interesting food for family meals.

What are you reading at the moment?

Phosphorescence by Julia Baird.

What does the immediate future hold?

Producing two Landline specials.

Describe a perfect day in journalism?

When all elements of a story or a program come together through creative teamwork.
